Books:

Hi by Ann Herbert Scott and Glo Coalson
Hello Day by Anita Lobel
Say Hello by Rachel Isadora
Inclusion:
Hi by Ann Herbert Scott and Glo Coalson is about a young girl of indeterminate race goes to the post office with her mother and say “hi” to everyone. But no one notices her until they get to the counter. This is an older book, but I’m using it in an upcoming story time. In addition to Margarita the background characters are very inclusive.
Say Hello by Rachel Isadora Carmelita greets everyone in her very multicultural neighborhood in their own language. A great first introduction to other languages. And, of course, it features Isadora’s beautiful cut paper artwork.
Action Rhyme:
“How Do You Say Hi?” (Do actions as they are said.)
Hey! Hi! Howdy! Yo!
There are many ways to say hello!
Wave your hand. Nod your head.
Smile big or wink instead.
Blow a kiss. Tip your hat.
Shake your hands. Give a pat.
Of all the ways to say hello,
Here’s the way I like to go…HELLO!

We want to say hello!
