Last year I recommended #OwnVoice illustrator Kenard Pak’s book “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn.” This year I realized it is part of a series and am looking forward to reading these both in seasonal story times. And in February 2020 I’ll be ordering “Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring” when it is released right in time for my birthday!
I’ve mentioned before that I love “everyday diversity,” books where the characters are diverse but the narrative is not about their diversity. These books are great examples of that. The books are about the season, not the color or culture of the kids. The kids are just kids, they don’t have an “important” story to tell. I think it is good for kids to see other kids like themselves in everyday narratives. The majority of books I recommend are in this category. But I digress!
These books are written simply and are beautifully illustrated and I recommend them for any seasonal nature themed story time.
